Experienced Immigration Lawyers for Canadian Study Permit Applications

Individuals looking to enter Canada for educational purposes are often on a strict deadline and have a narrow window between being accepted at a designated learning institution in Canada and beginning classes. For that reason, it is extremely important to submit all necessary applications in advance to ensure that your application will be processed successfully in time to begin your schooling. This is where the services of a knowledgeable immigration lawyer will help.

At Garson Immigration Law, we have helped many international students secure study permits and other necessary documentation in order to further their education in Canada. We can help find the best path to facilitate a quick turnaround time and keep costs down.

Immigration Lawyers Assisting Clients Secure Study Permits

What is a Study Permit?

Study permits are often referred to as ‘student visas’, however, this is a misnomer, as a study permit is not the same as a visa. A study permit does not, on its own, grant a holder entry into the country. Often, those seeking a study permit will also be required to obtain a visitor visa or Electronic Travel Authorization depending on their country of origin in order to travel to Canada. This document is generally issued in conjunction with the permit once an application is approved.

Obtaining a Study Permit for Canada

At Garson Immigration Law, we consistently advise clients to apply for study permits as soon as possible, well in advance of travelling to Canada. In order to satisfy the application requirements, applicants will need to provide the following information:

  • Proof of acceptance into a designated Canadian learning institution;
  • Proof that they are able to pay tuition and living expenses, as well as those of any accompanying family members, for the duration of the stay.

You will also have to demonstrate your admissibility with respect to your health and criminal record.

The Student Direct Stream

The Student Direct Stream allows an applicant to fast-track their application for a study permit, as long as certain criteria are met. To qualify for the Student Direct Stream, an individual must:

  • Be a legal resident of one of the following countries:
    • China
    • India
    • Morocco
    • Pakistan
    • The Philippines
    • Senegal
    • Vietnam
  • Have a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution in Canada;
  • Have a Guaranteed Investment Certificate of $10,000 CAD; and
  • Pass a language test in English or French.
